Aramco Upstream Solutions Technathon
OCTOBER 26-28, 2018, LMSU SCIENCE PARK
The main objectives of the event is to explore the talent landscape in Moscow and Russia and to identify prospective candidates to be interviewed for research positions on the Aramco Innovations – a global research center of Saudi Aramco, leading global integrated energy and chemicals company

About our event
The Aramco Upstream Solution Technaton will take place at LMSU Science Park on October 26-28.

Delegates will develop and present prototypes integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology into specific oil and gas industry applications.

There will be free of charge tutorials providing general information and explaining specific aspects of the technathon challenges. The tutorials will take place on October 26, starting at 12pm in Science Park.

Reservoir parameters measurement and evaluation
Subsurface imaging
using seismic data
Dynamic geological models building
The technathon challenges will focus
on four distinct, strategic areas:
Determination of elastic tension values in a field scale
We are expecting to see IT—specialists in ML and AI areas, physicist, mathematicians and geoscientists who is not afraid to be challenged in new areas. The general knowledge about petroleum geoscience is a plus but not obligatory.

Khalid Al-Ruwaili
Production Technology
Ali Almomin started his career with Saudi Aramco in 2007 where he completed several assignments in
seismic data acquisition, processing, inversion, imaging and subsurface model building. He obtained a
B.Sc. from Texas A&M University, a M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Stanford University in Geophysics. Ali is
currently the Champion of High Performance Computing of Geophysics at Saudi Aramco's Advanced
Research Center and an active member of SEG, SPE and EAGE.
Wisam AlKawai focuses on integrated process-based geologic modeling in the Geology Technology Division.
His specialty is integrating process-based geologic modeling with seismic data through rock physics for
multi-physics characterization of subsurface reservoirs. He received his PhD from Stanford University by
June, 2018. He is the first author of multiple papers on combining process-based modeling with seismic to
describe heterogeneity in subsurface reservoirs and predict elevated pore fluid pressure.
Khalid Alruwaili joined Saudi Aramco in 2006 as a petroleum engineer working in various managerial and
technical tasks for Northern Area Reservoir Management, Berri field. Over his assignment with Berri, he
worked on the ultimate development plan of Upper Fadhili reservoir, a carbonate tight reservoir. He is
currently working as a Geomechanics engineer leading and supporting several research projects under
the Production Technology Division (PTD) in EXPEC Arc Department. Alruwaili's area of research is
borehole mechanics, wellbore stimulation, hydraulic fracturing and reservoir Geomechanics. He has
authored and co-authored several technical papers.
He received his B.Sc. degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering from King Saudi University, MSc
degree in petroleum engineering (Geomechanics) from University of Calgary and PhD degree in
petroleum engineering (Geomechanics) from Heriot Watt University.
Alruwaili is an active member of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and technical contributor to the
American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA).
Reservoir Engineer at Saudi Aramco's EXPEC Advanced Research Center. He is the Champion of Chemical EOR Focus Area. He has working experience in Reservoir Description, Simulation, and Management as well as Reserves Assessment. AlSofi is the recipient of the 2009 SPE ATCE Young Professional Best Paper Award in reservoir engineering, and the recipient of the 2013 Middle East Young Engineer of the Year Award.
AlSofi has authored or co-authored more than 30 conference papers and more than 10 peer-reviewed journal papers. He holds 2 granted patent, and is a co-inventor in few patent applications. AlSofi serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering (JPSE) and as a Technical Editor for JPSE, Arabian Journal of Science and Engineering, and SPE Reservoir Engineering and Evaluation Journal. He served as a member in the program committee of SPE 2017 Middle East Oil and Gas Show. He chaired several local and regional SPE sessions on EOR and was an invited speaker in few international SPE workshops and forums on EOR. Since 2013, AlSofi serves as the Kingdom representative at the World Petroleum Council's Young Professionals committee. AlSofi holds a BSc degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a PhD degree from Imperial College London, both in Petroleum Engineering.
